 Unhealthy eating is the #1  avoidable risk factor for diseases such as strokes. Fortunately it is also the simplest risk factor to modify.

For healthy eating it is recommended that a diet includes 2 servings of fish per week, also recommended is omega 3 & 6 fish oils.


According to a recent study 2 servings of fish per week reduces the risk for strokes, but not fish oil supplements. This is
another reason to place diet as number 1 and not rely on supplements.

 
For the study, researchers examined the association between oily fish and the risk of strokes or mini strokes; it was a very large study involving 800,000 participants from 15 countries.

The researchers examined the participants fish and long chain omega 3 fatty acid consumption. 

They found that those who eat two to four servings of fish per week had a 6 % lower risk for strokes; fish oil supplements were not linked to reduced risk for the disease.

uring the study, 34,817 strokes and mini strokes were recorded.

Fish is a healthy alternative to animal meat, it is recommended instead of red meat. Too much red meat has been linked to the cause of colon cancer in industrialized countries.

These oily fish which are so good for the diet are:
  • Salmon
  • Sardines
  • Mackerel
  • Trout
  • Tuna
